GETTING YOUR CAR READY FOR THE COLDER WINTER MONTHS

With winter around the corner we thought it would be a good idea to mention a few things that every car owner should take into consideration as the weather shifts from warm to cold. Maintaining your vehicle is very important but even more so during the rainy and snowy seasons.

  1. CHECK THE (HVAC) heating, ventilating and air conditioning system. Nobody wants to sit in a cold and frosty car while driving to work… brrr…
  2. CHECK YOUR TIRES! We’ve all heard of this one before but it really is crucial for your safety and the people around you. Always check the tire pressure and the tread of your tires. Look for things like bulges and bald spots, those are clear indications that you need to change your tires. Oh, and don’t forget to have a spare in the trunk… just in case!
  3. CHECK THE BRAKE SYSTEM annually and have the brake linings, rotors and drums inspected at each oil change.
  4. CHECK YOUR BATTERY because a full battery is required to start your car in the winter. Most vehicle owners don’t even know this fact so always keep that in mind. Who wants to be stuck in the middle of nowhere in the cold? Not me…
  5. CHECK ALL THE LIGHTS. Carefully inspect the headlights, taillights, parking lights, break lights and emergency flashes. With colder months come shorter days and longer nights and lots of fog.
  6. MAKE SURE YOUR HEATER AND DEFROSTER WORK. This one is common sense but frosted and foggy windows are very dangerous and can easily cause an accident.
  7. CHANGE THE OIL. This is something you should do regardless of the time of the year, but if you haven’t done so yet this is your reminder!
